Decorative Painter’s China Crackle Topcoat
(DP-604) is a water-based top coat that, when used with the China Crackle
Basecoat, replicates the appearance of an antique, cracked oil varnish.
SURFACE
PREPARATION:
All surfaces should be clean and non-absorbent. Seal porous surfaces
with a clear water based sealer such as Modern Masters® Dead Flat
Varnish or Satin Varnish. (Please see the Dead Flat Varnish and Satin
Varnish Technical Data Sheets for more information.)
APPLICATION:
Step 1: Apply one coat of China Crackle Basecoat (DP-602) to the surface
with a brush or low-nap roller. Let dry completely, approximately 20
to 40 minutes. Hint: The crackle base coat is dry once it feels slightly
sticky to the touch but leaves no residue on the fingers.
Step 2: Apply one coat of China Crackle Topcoat (DP-604) with a brush.
Apply evenly for a consistently cracked surface. Avoid brushing over
an area twice (this may disrupt the crackle process). Let dry completely,
approximately 1 to 2 hours. Once dry, the surface will be completely
clear. Hint: A blow dryer set to medium heat may be used to speed up
the drying time of steps 1 and 2. Hold the dryer at least 10 to 12 inches
(20 to 30cm) away from the surface.
Step 3: Apply the desired color of China Crackle Enhancer (DP-605, Dark
or DP-606, Light) with a soft clean cloth. Rub the color into the cracks.
While the Enhancer is still wet, wipe the surface clean with a soft
clean cloth. Choose the China Crackle Enhancer-Dark for lighter surfaces,
and China Crackle Enhancer-Light for darker surfaces. Let dry completely,
at least 1 hour.
Step
4 (Optional): Surfaces that will be handled should be protected with
Modern Masters® Dead Flat Varnish or Satin Varnish. Follow the directions
on the varnish container label.

square meters per 473 ml.)

Wipe up spills and splatters with a damp cloth.
