MODERN
MASTERS® DECORATIVE PAINTER’S DEAD FLAT VARNISH is a premium
quality, 100% acrylic, non-yellowing, water based varnish formulated
to have the optimum level of clarity with the least amount of sheen.
It is water resistant and abrasion resistant and offers protection for
faux finishes and decorative painted surfaces. Dead Flat Varnish will
remove undesirable variations in sheen created by using semi-gloss base
coats with
Decorative Glazes. Not recommended for use over Modern Masters®
Metallic Paint Collection or Metal Effects Metallic Paints.
SURFACE
PREPARATION:
The faux finished or decorative painted surface must be fully cured
prior to application (approximately 24 hours). If applying over porous
surfaces, (such as stone and plaster finishes) dilute the Dead Flat
Varnish 10% with water and apply in thin coats until the surface is
sealed. NOTE: NOT INTENDED FOR USE OVER OIL BASED FINISHES.
APPLICATION:
Dead Flat Varnish can be applied by brush, roller, or HVLP spray gun.
Do not apply when air and surface temperature are below 50°F (10°C)
or high humidity conditions exist. Optimal application conditions are
60 to 80°F (16 to 27°C) and 30 to 60% relative humidity. For
most applications, thinning is not necessary. Stir thoroughly before
use. Do not shake.
Brushing:
Use a high-quality synthetic bristle brush.
Rolling: Use a high-quality, short-nap roller.
Spraying: Use a HVLP sprayer powered with an air compressor.
If thinning is
necessary, add up to 10% (3 fl. oz./85ml) of water per quart/946ml of
Dead Flat Varnish. When spraying, use a NIOSH approved respirator. For
best results and maximum protection, two coats of Dead Flat Varnish
are recommended.
Dry
Times:
Dry-to-touch is in approximately 30 minutes, re-coat is in approximately
two hours, and full cure is in approximately 12 hours. Thicker film,
temperature below 60°F (16°C) and relative humidity above 50%
may result in slower dry times.
Coverage:
Approximately 87 to 112 square feet per quart (8.0 to 10.5 square meters
per 947ml).
Clean
Up:
Clean tools, brushes, and equipment with warm, soapy water immediately
after use. Promptly wipe up spills and splatters with a damp cloth.
